Perhaps some consider the approach to Great Lent as a "mardi-gras" time - time to get in that last hamburger and ice cream before the fast. Truthfully though, it is a time of eager anticipation, looking forward to the wonderful and peaceful celebrations of the Lenten journey. This icon depicts the Sunday celebrations of Great Lent. Top: The Triumph of Orthodoxy. Center (L-R): St. Gregory Palamas, the Veneration of the Cross, and St. John Climacus. Bottom (L-R): St. Mary of Egypt and the Resurrection of Lazarus. Would that we could all have this icon in our prayer corners!
May God grant us wisdom!
