The first, and lowest standard, sadly often followed in this fallen world, is the Steel Rule: Do what you will unto others before they have a chance to do what they will unto you.
The second, found in the teachings of Confucius and Mohamed, is the Silver Rule: Do nothing unto others that you would not wish them to do unto you.
The third, found in the teachings of Christ, is the Golden Rule: Therefore, whatever you want men to do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. (Matthew 7:12). This is often considered to be the highest Christian standard, but in fact, it is not.
The fourth, final, and most perfect rule, which was also given by Christ, I call the Platinum Rule: A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. (John 13:34).
This last, most wonderful commandment is truly Divine; It can only be followed if we welcome Christ into our lives, if we can truly say with St. Paul, "it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me." (Galatians 2:20)
May God grant us Wisdom!
